Get to Know Karen Shambaugh, OTR/L, CLT from X-Cel

I, Karen Shambaugh would like to take this opportunity to announce the exciting news of a newly established Occupational and Physical Therapy facility serving the tri-state area. For the past 18 years, I have served our community by working for two of the area’s finest rehabilitation facilities. Having said that, I am extremely appreciative of the opportunities provided to me by my former employers to gain both valuable knowledge and experience in the field of rehabilitative therapy. I have also received the encouragement to refine my own skills as a therapist in order to be the best that I can be.

A Licensed Occupational Therapist Certified in Lymphedema Management

As my abilities have grown, so have my desires to further enhance the level of care and treatment, which we make available to the deserving people in this area. In addition to being the proprietor of X-Cel Performance Rehab LLC, I act in the capacity of a licensed occupational therapist. My primary focus had been in the treatment of hands and upper and lower extremities. I am also certified in the treatment of lymphedema management. Lymphedema management services will be a primary focus due to the low supply of clinicians in the Western Maryland and West Virginia area to treat this condition. Physical therapy is also offered at the facility as we have a licensed physical therapist and physical therapy assistants with more than 40 years experience, who together work to exhibit a passion to perform to their peak ability and meet the needs of our patient population.

We Evaluate Each Condition and Then Create a Custom Treatment Plan

The purpose of X-Cel Performance Rehab LLC is to provide specialized rehabilitation services for the cervical, spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand and upper and lower extremities. We will provide an initial evaluation with an occupational therapist or physical therapist. After the evaluation our team will develop a treatment in conjunction with the referring physician. Depending on the patient’s needs we provide therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, therapeutic activities of daily living skills, safety precautions, splinting, patient education and a very thorough home program. Potential clients throughout the tri-state region are individuals who have an injury, disease or dysfunction of the upper or lower parts of the body. X-Cel Performance Rehab LLC has a “small classroom” setting, whereby our mission is to provide attention to the specific needs of each individual and give them a feeling their recovery is our number one priority.
